I'd hold off on doing anything like this for at least a week after UBB6 is out of beta... a control panel Module is called for.
UBB.classic: Love it or hate it, it was mine.

Yeah, really. I'm affraid people are going rush this and try to write hacks for ubb6 in the style ubb5 used.
Hopefully everyone will stick with the whole method of using cookies and separate variable files.
We can only dream.
